Growing up in the countryside of South East England, Ben has always enjoyed being outdoors and surrounded by nature. The answers chemistry provided about the natural world eventually led him to study Chemistry with Medicinal Chemistry at the University of Warwick. There, he was introduced to the world of cellular signaling through his Master’s research project studying Gamma-butyrolactone signaling systems in the Streptomyces genus and deciding he’d had enough of England for the time being, Ben wished to pursue a newfound interest in chemical messengers, this time in the context of humans. In the Fiedler group, Ben is hoping to develop new analytical techniques to allow the study of protein pyrophosphorylation as well as further our ability to synthesize traditionally difficult peptides. When outside of a lab, he intends to spend as many evenings as he can enjoying the live music venues of Berlin and as many weekends as he can rowing on the lakes surrounding the city.
